Travel Blog: Club Med Bintan Island Resort Stay 2015 Souvenirs, 地中海俱乐部民丹岛度假村纪念品, 19 Jul 15

Did we mention we bought these symbolic T-shirts from Club Med Bintan Island Resort? We did that just before we left the resort. The souvenir shop in the resort sold all kinds of merchandise, from T-shirts, to towels, and bags and accessories. We bought these T-shirts since they had the words "Bintan Island", which would remind us that we had been to this resort, but it also had the numbers "45". The "45" symbolizes the 45th anniversary, which happened back in 1995. The T-shirts were so popular, even more popular than the 50th anniversary T-shirts, that they decided to continue printing "45" T-shirts. There is also an "88" version. It is used because "8" is an auspicious number for Asian countries. And auspicious things come in pairs as well, according to Chinese beliefs. Therefore the T-shirts with "45" and "88" were born, and continue to be sold throughout Asian Club Med Resorts.

Club Med Bintan Island Resort Stay Day 3: 19 July 2015, Sunday
地中海俱乐部民丹岛之旅第三天:7月19日2015年, 星期天

The third and last day of our stay at Club Med Bintan Island Resort was a Sunday. What do you do on Sundays? Sleep in of course! But then again, there was a whole spread of breakfast waiting for us. We got up just a little bit later than the day before and took a stroll along the beach, listening to the waves and enjoying the cool morning breeze.

We then went to the Terrace restaurant, just like for the past few meals. We piled up our plates with noodles, eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausages and got milk and fruits to go along. A satisfying breakfast.

Momo's breakfast.

Orange's breakfast.

After breakfast, we came across a bocce ball or pétanque court near the main building and decided to give it a try. We had never played this game before and found it quite interesting. However we got bored of it quickly and decided to head towards the beach once again.

It really is a giant version of gor lee (marbles).

Who could have made these mini balls of sand all over the beach?

It is almost like crop circles made of sand.

After the leisurely stroll at the beach, we went to the main building to make some check out procedures. The Korean GO who did the Gangnam Style dance in the previous night was manning the counter. After that, we went to the archery range to enjoy our last activity at the resort. Seemed like I had not lost my touch. Archery is a sport that tests your hand-eye coordination, breathing technique, and of course the strength of your arms. And with that last activity, we proceeded to the Terrace for the final time for our last meal in Club Med Bintan Island Resort. Sounds sad...

Momo Dear taking a picture with Mr. Gangnam Style.

Haven't played archery for quite some time.

There were many exotic dishes handcrafted by the master chefs of Terrace restaurant. It was like fine dining and buffet all at once. The desserts were once again hard to resist. Who could resist such beautiful and tasty-looking dishes and desserts?

Had some prata, pasta, rice.

Thai Squid Salad

Minced Duck and Coriander Salad

Last chance to eat lots of meat before we head home.

This should be the last top up.

Plenty of desserts still await us...

And many more...

It's better to have some fruits.

And ice-cream!

We made our last exploration around the resort right after lunch. We found the children's playrooms and other activity areas. This Club Med resort is really family-oriented and well suited for families with many kids. They do not have to worry about not being able to enjoy themselves because they have to look after their kids, simply because your kids will be taken care of by the GOs and get to participate in all kinds of activities catered specially for kids of their age. There is the Petit Club (for toddlers 2 to 3), Mini Club (ages 4 to 10) and Kids Club (ages 4 to 17). What's best is kids under 4 stay for free! We will certainly return to Club Med again with our little ones next time.

A children's playroom.

A mini stage for the kids to do some performance it seems.

These rooms cater to kids of different ages for some activities.

There is even a playground.

Kids are divided into Kids Club, Mini Club and Petit Club, based on their age.

And soon, the inevitable had to happen. It's time to leave! Once again, the GOs lined up the entrance all the way to our coach and gave us a warm sending off. After we boarded our coach, the GOs also lined the path a distance from the building entrance, where finally the village chief, Jessie, stood right at the end to wave us goodbye. Now that's VIP treatment.

The GOs giving us a warm sending off.

And their signature wave again.

The village chief, Jessie, stands at the very end to wave us goodbye.

It was a short trip back to the ferry point, where we took the ferry back to Singapore with unwilling hearts. But we know for sure we would definitely return to this wonderful resort again in the near future. Thank you Club Med Bintan Island for your warm hospitality!

Club Med Bintan Island Resort Day 2: 18 July 2015, Saturday
地中海俱乐部民丹岛之旅第二天:7月18日2015年, 星期六

What could be a better way to spend a weekend morning when overseas than watching the sunrise? Especially when the private beach area at Club Med Bintan Island Resort was the perfect spot to watch the sunrise, with nothing but the ocean and the sky in the distance. We woke up before 6am local time and waited for the sun to rise from the horizon. With the cool morning breeze and absolutely no one else (except for a few other resort visitors) while waiting for sunrise, it was the ultimate experience at a beach resort.

Waiting for the sun to rise above the clouds.

And the sun is up!

Even this monitor lizard wants to witness the beautiful sunrise.

These weird-looking tracks seem to belong to some crabs.

At the bottom of this pit should be the prime suspect.

The sun rising behind the coconut trees, and the reflection on the swimming pool created this picture perfect scene.

There was even a Japanese garden for a Zen moment.

Wonder what that 9-sided star symbolizes.

After witnessing such a beautiful sunrise, the next thing to do was of course to have breakfast! Just as the dinner had such a huge spread, the breakfast also had tons to choose from. There was Dear's favourite waffles. We also had salad, omelettes, bread, cheese, porridge, sausages, corn, veggies and so much more. There was also watermelon juice, other than the usual milk and orange juice to choose from. What an awesome spread for breakfast.

Time for breakfast! Lots of bread and pastries here.

Milk and fruits.

There are waffles and crepes too.

First for some porridge and hard-boiled egg.

And then some not-so-healthy stuff...

Momo Dear's favourite waffles completes her meal.

And some omelettes and salad.

After breakfast, we took a stroll within the resort and saw some kids having fun on the trapeze. This interesting sport was not a common sight in many places, therefore it would be a great opportunity to give it a try. Even adults had the chance to have a go. Sessions were divided into kids and adults, therefore registration for a spot was required. We stood around and witnessed how the trainers taught the kids how to climb up the ladders, hold onto the bar of the swing, and swing on the trapeze. Some were even taught how to do tricks, like hanging themselves from the bar with their legs! I wanted to give it a try, however I was too full after breakfast to do these kind of stunts. Another time I guess!

Wanted to give the trapeze a try but was too full to do so after breakfast.

The lotus flowers blooming with radiance.

We stayed at Nyatoh block.

We also visited the main building where there was an air-conditioned room specially for playing mahjong. There were a few mahjong tables with mahjong sets. The room could also be used for other things like board games, card games etc. There was also a table-tennis table right outside the room, so we played a few games just for fun. Before long, lunch was beckoning us!

A good chunk of meat makes a good lunch choice.

Can't remember was this foie gras or something else.

Fried rice will never go wrong.

We had some pumpkin soup too.

Another round of feasting, with a totally different menu. Upon sitting at our table, a GO approached us and asked if she could sit with us. Of course! It was none other than Tammy, the lady who was magnificent in the acrobatic performance in the previous night. We learned quite a lot about her, as well as how they would stay at each resort for a certain period of time, before being transferred to another part of the world at a different resort, and continuing doing this rotation. Sounds like great fun and a good way to travel the world, all being paid for!

Tammy, the lady who did all the acrobatic acts last night, had lunch with us.

After the interesting lunch with a GO, we headed to the beach to relax. Grabbed some drinks from the little hut which serves drinks. There we lazed at the beach chairs and watched others having fun at the beach.

The kids relaxing at the beach, which is part of their programme.

You can order drinks at this little hut by the beach, without having to go back to the main building.

Ordered a drink of the day.

Later on, we explored the other parts of the resort, namely the other sports area, like the tennis courts, and even the archery range. I had fond memories of playing archery back in school days, so this was a great chance to relive those days. However it was getting rather late, and therefore we would return for it the next morning.

Looks like some guests are enjoying their tennis match.

There is also an archery range.

It was close to dinner, but we got kinda hungry. We went to a little bar area on the upper floor of the main building, where snacks were being served. Of course, we ordered some drinks to go along with the finger food.

We decided to sit back and relax with some drinks.

And beer goes well with finger food. So...

Time passes quickly when you are...doing nothing! We basically relaxed near the bar area and waited till it was dinner time. Back to the Waterfall! Another different set of menu and plenty of interesting-looking desserts. The strategy was to eat as little a portion of each item as possible, and give everything a try. The desserts were simply amazing. Not only nice to look at, but also taste heavenly.

Korean Jajangmyeon.

Seafood Platter

Salmon Gravlax

Sushi if you're into Japanese cuisine.

These Mango Cheese Flan look so good.

Pizza, veggies, pasta.

Pears Caramel and Cinnamon Mousse

And of course ice-cream for dessert.

We slowly enjoyed our buffet dinner until it was time for the night performance once again. We gathered at the theatre area and settled down. The GOs gave a hilarious and entertaining performance for the night. At the end of it, as usual, GMs were asked to join in the fun for a mass dance.

The GOs giving an amazing performance.

The Korean GO doing an imitation of PSY dancing to Gangnam Style.

And all the GOs gathered for the finale.

After the performance, we decided to lower the tempo and relaxed at the lounge area, where a live band was playing. We sipped our cocktails and enjoyed the beautiful music played by the live band into the night. Alas, once the band sang their last song, we lamented that it was our last night at Club Med Bintan Island Resort. One could never have enough of such pure indulgence of staying at such a wonderful resort.

Had some drinks while enjoying the live band.

Relaxing to the wonderful music performed by the resident live band.

Thanks for your beautiful music.
